Rosalyn, Choi Han, and Harol. All three of them were at a loss for words.
Cale seemed to agree as he nodded his head.
‘I think it is crazy as well.’
But what else could he do?
This was the best way to really smack the Imperial Prince in the back.
– Human, human! Why aren’t you telling them about the kidnapping you discussed with the crown prince?
Cale pretended not to hear Raon. He then calmly started to speak to the three people.
“Do not worry. I won’t get caught.”
He wasn’t like Choi Han; he could deal with that much acting.
“Young master Cale, that’s not the issue!”
Cale looked toward Rosalyn’s frowning face and asked back. If that wasn’t it, then what was the issue?
It was at that moment.
The door to the room with the teleportation magic circle slammed open.
A person with a large body rushed into the room.
He then looked around until he made eye contact with Cale. The large-bodied person, Toonka, started to shout as soon as he saw Cale.
“Why are you trying to go into the lion’s den alone?!”
Cale became anxious.
“Why?! I’m asking why you need to go into the most dangerous place alone! Do you want to die?”
‘I don’t want to die.’
Cale started to wonder why Toonka was suddenly acting like this.
However, Toonka started to frown even more after seeing Cale’s nonchalant expression.
‘That stupid expression on his face!’
There was no way that the smart Cale Henituse would not know about it. Toonka believed that Cale knew and was pretending not to know.
‘Going to the Empire’s side where the Imperial Prince and the Vice Tower Master are on his own!’
That was dangerous. Cale Henituse’s life could go out like a candle in front of a storm if he showed the smallest of openings.
Toonka shouted angrily at Cale who still had the, ‘I don’t know anything,’ expression on his face.
“I may be an idiot, but you are even more of an idiot!”
Cale started to get angry.
He tried to say something, but Chief Harol stepped in.
“Commander-nim, please calm down.”
He calmed Toonka down and looked toward Cale. Cale flinched. Harol seemed to be a bit emotional.
Cale started to feel uncomfortable.
“Commander-nim, I’m sure that you are tired from going to the Empire, so please get some rest.”
It didn’t sound out of the ordinary. Cale relaxed and was about to nod his head.
“…And the spy strategy. We will definitely remember your sacrifice. The soldiers don’t know about your sacrifice yet, but you will be etched in history for all of the Whipper Kingdom’s citizens to remember forever. Our Whipper Kingdom will definitely defeat the Empire and take the Imperial Prince’s neck for you.”
“Our Whipper Kingdom can smile as we enter that pit of fire that you are willing to enter first.”
‘Why would I go into a pit of fire? Why is he so vicious?’
Cale had a lot to say but could not get himself to say anything. It was because Harol was a bit faster once again.
Harol bowed before dragging Toonka out of the room. Toonka let out a deep sigh and his shoulders were hunched as he grumbled and followed behind.
The door closed.
Now only Choi Han, Rosalyn, and the invisible Raon were left with Cale.
‘Why are they playing the drums and the janggu?’
Cale’s gaze was focused on the door that closed behind Toonka and Harol as he stood there in shock. Rosalyn looked toward Choi Han after seeing Cale’s response. Her expression seemed to be asking what they could do about this person. Choi Han slightly shook his head and started to speak.
“Cale-nim, am I going with you?”
Choi Han knew that he needed to stay with the Whipper Kingdom as the helmeted swordsman.
“Then Raon will be with you, right, Cale-nim?”
The invisible Raon answered that question.
“Of course! I will be with the human! You don’t need to worry about that!”
Choi Han and Rosalyn nodded their heads in relief after hearing Raon’s response. Cale would be fine no matter what happened as long as Raon was with him.
Cale did not seem happy to see the faces that were frowning after hearing what he had to say returning to normal after hearing a six-year-old’s response.
He then nonchalantly added on.
“What is it? You can tell me anything!”
“I need to call the Imperial Prince.”
The gazes of the people in the room changed.
“Raon, can you make it look like I’m in the Henituse territory when you connect the call?”
“That is as easy as drinking cold soup for the great and mighty Raon Miru!”
“That’s right! I am the great and mighty Raon Miru!”
Raon fluttered his wings at Cale’s praise while Rosalyn and Choi Han could not hide their anxiety.
This was especially the case for Rosalyn whose eyes were sparkling as she was quickly figuring things out in her head. Imperial Prince Adin was not an easy person to deal with.
“Young master Cale, what are you planning on doing?”
Cale brushed his pale-looking face.
Patients were meant to be laying down.
“I apologize for greeting you like this.
He let out a sigh after every sentence. He was trying to make it look like it was difficult for him to even speak. That sigh sounded very loud in the silent room.
– Not at all. Are you feeling a bit better?
Imperial Prince Adin’s face was on the video communication device screen. He seemed to be concerned.
It was not the fabricated expression he usually had on his face.
Cale seemed to be seriously injured to Adin.
What he could see through the screen was a typical luxurious room with Cale laying on the bed with Choi Han supporting him to sit him up.
“I ask for your understanding for looking so shabby like this.”
Cale slowly lowered his head and raised it back as he spoke to the Imperial Prince.
“I didn’t think it would be good for the Roan Kingdom’s citizens, no, the three Northern Kingdoms to learn about my current situation.”
– …I understand your desire to think of your kingdom.
“Thank you very much.”
Adin thoroughly inspected Cale’s face.
‘It’s very pale. He’s seriously ill.’
He was not faking it.
Adin could be certain about at least that.
There’s also no magic being used to make his skin look like that of a patient.
‘He’s not lying.’
Adin’s gaze turned toward Choi Han.
The youngest sword master. This strong individual who suddenly appeared on the Western continent was someone they needed to be wary of to the point that he made it on the Empire’s watch list.
‘…His expression is too realistic for it to be an act.’
Choi Han was not saying anything as he supported Cale to sit up, however, his pupils were shaking as if his mind was chaotic from being worried about Cale.
Adin was good at reading people’s emotions as he pretty much had none himself. However, even his adept observation was telling him that Choi Han was worried about Cale Henituse right now.
‘Both of them make it very likely that they are telling the truth.’
That meant that the chances of Cale Henituse being that, ‘brown robe,’ were going down.
Imperial Prince Adin had heard everything about the battle at Maple Castle. The people to pay close attention were not the Breck Kingdom, Rosalyn, nor even the Flame Dwarves, it was that, ‘brown robe.’
An ancient power. A fire ancient power.
The person that released the fire that would not go out had suddenly appeared on the Western continent. He also did not reveal who he was by wearing the robe.
That was why the Empire had placed Cale Henituse on their list of potential suspects. It was because Rosalyn was there and because it was an ancient power.
However, seeing Cale like this made him almost want to stop being suspicious.
That was because the Empire’s mages had informed him that the brown robe was fine after using the ancient power. However, the Cale Henituse in front of him, as well as the one he saw in crown prince Alberu’s video, looked as if he was going back and forth between life and death.
‘It wouldn’t be weird if he died right now.’
He was relieved that Cale was not an enemy, but whether he was an enemy or not, if Cale was also in possession of a fire ancient power…
‘We would need to kill him.’
Cale was currently known to have three ancient powers. The shield, water, and stone spears. It would be bad for the White Star if Cale managed to get another one.
Adin was looking at Cale with an honestly concerned expression.
– Wouldn’t you be overdoing it to participate in the war?
“I am okay.”
‘Like hell you are.’
Adin was truly concerned.
‘It’ll make things complicated if he dies during the Empire’s war.’
He needed to die later.
He recalled what the Tower Master of the Alchemists’ Bell Tower had told him.
‘You’re saying that this person, this Cale Henituse, has three ancient powers? Ho, tsk tsk.’
The Tower Master had commented on Cale Henituse’s situation with a sad expression.
‘He’s going to die soon.’
Cale Henituse would soon explode and die from the clash of ancient powers.
The Roan Kingdom’s growth would completely stall if Cale disappeared.
That was why Adin was enjoying it.
However, he was just hoping that this weak person would not die in the Empire. That would turn the Empire and the Roan Kingdom’s relationship instantly into one of animosity.
The Tower Master’s voice echoed in his mind again.
‘He’ll probably die after using his ancient powers a few more times. This is very sad.’
The Tower Master was sad about this, but Adin liked it.
That was why he was using a gentle voice to tell Cale how he felt.
– Thank you for being willing to drag your injured body to help the Empire. I do not wish to ask you for a lot, especially when you are in so much pain.
Adin looked toward the pale Cale. Cale seemed to be having trouble using his power just once.
– Just once. I hope you can use your strength to help us just once in order to put out the fire.
The Empire would be happy to put out the fire without using magic nor alchemy.
‘And I would personally be happy to be able to make Cale Henituse die a bit sooner.’
It was like killing two birds with one stone.
“It is fine to use my powers for the Empire as much as you want. The Empire and the Roan Kingdom are friends. I also wish to help the Empire out as I have received a medal of honor.”
Adin had to hold back from laughing at Cale Henituse, this hero of justice.
‘That kind of mindset is useless.’
If you took a look at it, people were emotional creatures who put their lives on the line for trivial things sometimes.
Like this Cale Henituse who was saying that he would heal himself as much as possible and that he would come as quickly as possible.
Whether it was for the kingdom, for others, for fame, or even for justice.
Adin found these people who ignored their limits and charged forward to be stupid.
His pupils that were brown because he was not currently under the sun focused on Cale Henituse.
– I will not forget your sacrificial mindset.
He would never forget it.
But only because Adin found it amusing to watch people die because of such sacrifices.
– Then I look forward to seeing you soon.
“Yes your highness, I will see you in a few days.”
Cale bowed and the call was soon terminated.
The first call with Adin had been completed.
Choi Han was looking at the bowing Cale with concerned eyes. Cale slowly raised his head. His gaze headed toward the video communication device that just had Adin’s face on it.
The device was off right now.
However, Cale was looking past the video communication device as he started to speak.
“I believe you saw everything.”
There was something behind the video communication device that was off.
A second video communication device was located there.
The person on the other side of that call had watched and heard everything Imperial Prince Adin and Cale had just said.
The man on the other side of the screen brushed back his shoulder-length hair as Cale called out his name.
“Your highness, prince Valentino.”
The Caro Kingdom’s crown prince Valentino. He did not hide his vicious gaze. He glared at the off video communication device in front of him as he slowly started to speak.
– See you soon, commander.
The Caro Kingdom was responsible for transporting the priests of the light-affinity churches to help the Empire.
It was known that Valentino would personally lead the priests there for his close friend Adin.
Cale and Valentino would meet with Adin at the Empire.
“Yes your highness, I will see you there.”
– Commander, I know you are hurting, so don’t overdo it. Alright then.
Valentino hung up the call. Cale stood up from his seat.
He then headed past Adin’s video communication device, as well as the table with Valentino’s video communication device. He could see the flabbergasted Rosalyn and the excited Raon sitting there.
There was a third video communication device in front of the two of them.
Cale picked that one up. He could see a third person in this video communication device. He was the only one who had watched all of this.
Cale called out his name.
– Yes, Cale-nim.
The white-haired man on the screen smiled brightly as Cale continued to speak.
“You heard everything?”
– Yes, Cale-nim.
Of course, he had heard everything.
The white-haired man nodded his head and Cale gave him an order.
“Then go pretend to be me.”
The brown-robed white-haired priest.
The person who fit that description almost perfectly smiled and answered back.
– Any time for you, Cale-nim. As long as it is an order from the one and only Cale-nim on this continent. I will do my best to pretend to be you even though I know that I am not worthy.
‘…Ah, something feels iffy.’
Cale thought it would be fine, but felt iffy about Clopeh’s response and looked at him with concern.
However, he could only sigh as the crazy bastard smiled brightly and added on.
– It looks like the end is near for the Imperial Prince.
That was the plan.
Clopeh Sekka really lost it hmmmm but at least he’s still useful
I can see it now…Clopah is going to be that one drama student who got a 5 miniute cameo to shine.
Cale…I hope you don’t regret your decision, lol
IKR! That one dude who was a background tree all along, but became the hero at the last 5 minutes by sacrificing himself for the princess!
I see some of your points but Cale was never portrayed to be overly sociable. Even in his past live it was mentioned that he had an issue communicating. Obviously there are some stretches for comedic effect but there are people who just don’t realize how others view them or can’t really read the mood in the room.
So I like it the way it is and it gives Cale a charm that other ‘smart’ MCs rarely have. 🙂
It is not self-centered. He just wants to do things on his own so that others don’t get hurt. If you know what his past is like, you can understand it. He prefers to be hurt before others. Because he believes that it is better that only suffer before others do. He has no consciousness and weight of his own life. Although he says he does not like to sacrifice or feel pain. There is nothing egocentric about it, it is the opposite of that.
Well, whether or not you like the character is your problem. But get to know it well before you judge it. Because self-centered people only attend to their own needs and interests, being unable to care and act for the benefit of others. Does Cale ONLY think of his own benefit? NO. He thinks of the kingdom, the people around him, his acquaintances, his family, etc. Not only only in him. He just wants peace so that he and those around him are okay. Because you cannot be at peace if others are not.
Sorry if nothing is understood, please use a translator. Due to my inability to learn English. I just hope you understand my point.
So true (*´ω｀*)
the translation is good, you’re completely right.
Agree with everything! And like others have said the translation is good. 👍
He’s the opposite of self-centered. He pretends to be one but his actions speak louder than words.
A few chapters back, he recalls how his former colleagues in his past life ‘complain’ to him. He limited the information he disseminated as a team leader to protect them when they retire and go back to their families (whatever that means, I can’t wait to find out).
He also told Choi Han that he will think about his current choices. And Cale keeps his promises.
Inb4 the head priest of Cale-nim religion turns Cale into a cult leader while pretending to be him or some such nonsense.
Cale is definitely a bit of a self sacrificing prick. Despite his insistence on not wanting to die and leave peacefully, everytime we get a look at his thoughts he’s planning bigger and bigger schemes with higher stakes that, at the same time, have *himself* as the higher stake. He just finds this natural and often brushes it off with “this was my idea so it’s natural I’m in the one in danger. Besides, I’m fine” or similar lines of thought.
As someone else pointed out sometimes Cale’s lack of awareness is stretched for comedic purposes, but most of the time he’s too absorbed in his grand schemes to like, stop to think that maybe there’s a reason people look at him “weird” and it may not be because he’s saying things that sound impossible, but rather because they know him and they know he can pull it off, and that’s the exact reason they’re worried!
You can mostly see this back when Cale visited the empire with Alberu, when Cale kept the palace from falling down and almost collapsed in the process. Alberu was going insane at the moment, and honestly I can’t blame the guy! I would also have a couple heart attacks when my friend with sacrificial tendencies coughed up blood if I wasn’t like, an omniscient reader
In the end it’s sort of Cale’s charm as the protagonist of this novel and you can take it or leave it
In other news, get fucked, prince Adin
HAHAHA the Imperial Prince isn’t gonna know what hit him!!! I’m excited to see him crumble!
I like how Cale is and I kinda like the misunderstandings becuase everything else that Cale does it so well thought out and everything that kinda like him being is understood but i get it! I’m weird. Like everyones worried about him but I feel like too many people would depend more on him if he told them everything about his powers. That might make it harder for him to protect them. Idk sry don’t really know wat I think sometimes! I just really love this novel!!!
Andrea, I get your perspective. But that’s not how Cale is. In fact, Cale truly loves peace. Edited for spoiler. He’s not the best at talking about his feelings. But he cares about his people. Remember the chapter where Cale got angry when he found slaves being captured in the underground of the houses or something and were in a miserable state? He has emotions but he doesn’t know how yo express then openly like most do. But people tend to misunderstand people like that as they think they are selfish and emotionless. It might seem unreasonable that he wants to be a slacker but also does some heroic acts. But as someone mentioned, if you want to live in peace, the people around you must be in peace too. As for how he doesn’t explain when he’s throwing blood, he does say most of the time that he’s fine but everyone still worries as they are his friend. And Cale’s not the type to say extra words….you know. Anyways, as far as I know, he’ll also have some character development in the future. You can just stop reading if you don’t like him.
I like Cale. He’s not like other ML’s who are overpowered. He is weak although he might look strong. Choi Han, Rosalyn etc everyone is stronger than him.
Yessss. And him being self-centered is not a bad thing, it’s just that being self-centered has been portrayed differently most of the times. When you actually see life in a bigger perspective, you cannot live in peace alone, there are bound to be problems around you and you cannot run away forever so it is better to make sure that your surroundings and especially, the people around be at peace and naturally, you can be at peace. Sadly, people don’t get how these are all for him (and his people).
ADIN you r FUCKING HILLARIOUS
Calm bro, you read all the way story right? You are not skip anything right? In the previous chapter, the author tell us that even Kim Rok Soo ( his previous life ) it’s not much sociable until his co-wokers worried about him too and so, cale ( his life right now ) his life also not much that sociable.. every person have their own mindset, cale is not self-centered, it’s just that his personality a bit unique and different from other people
And if you think cale self-centered or whatever, than i think you are funny and ridiculous .. ups just kidding, funny, haha
Thank you for the chapter
Adin thoroughly inspected Cale’s face.
‘It’s very pale. He’s seriously ill.’
He was not faking it.
😂😂 Cale’s super pale skin is because he is rarely outside of his house. Even if he is outside, it’s night time and he wears robe all the time to disguise 😂
Cale’s defo a self- sacrificing idiot with some communication issues who has an insanely low opinion on the value of his own life. I do wish someone will be able to get through his stubborn head that it’s better sometimes to talk to people and lean on them more.
Thanks for the chapter!
I think that’s what Cale lacking, but it’s fine though, cause MC that overly perfect was too overwhelming and also I don’t like MC that too perfect, it’s sounds ridiculous
Clopeh sekkas reaction aint that crazy if you think about it. he is serving a man with
3 divine item
7 ancient power
Don’t forget the people directly below him, or in other words, his people which consist of:
– The “youngest” sword master
– A soon-to-be liege of a mage tower
– A soon-to-be Wolf King and his tribe
– An assassin household (which will be obtained sooner or later)
– The only existing necromancer
– The tiger tribe
And I’m sure the list will be increasing. I would join the Cult of Cale if it existed lol
You forgot the Elves, the Dark Elves, a high-profile (tho exiled) Priestess of Death, the Sun God’s Saint and Holy Maiden, and the Whale Tribe, and basically the rulers of every nation on the Western Continent aside from the Empire, hahaha!
Woah, the comment section is quite lively with the ideas going around XD
I’m loving this four-way call ambush a la mean girls HAHA all that’s left is if alberu was the last one cale called and they just laugh maniacally together at the end lol
He never said that he’s the “good guy” though. He always portrays himself as something evil so I don’t really get the point of your rant of how he needs to justify everything when in the first place he already think that he is a bad person. Also, I haven’t read about his previous life but he already mentioned how he don’t communicate at all with his comrades and just doing everything by himself AND the people around him knew about that fact. And the concern that they have for him was only natural because at the end of the day he really has a weaker body yet he still continue to do everything by himself. But the thing is he already started opening up to them which he told a few chapters back so calm the f down.
Omg, Chill Bro. I think the author has mentioned several times how Cale has the inability of socializing and communicating. Not sure what do you try to comment, but I think Cale is total opposite from being self centered
Clopeh Sekka is absolutely insane, I wouldn’t never want to meet him. Thanks for the chapter!
Chapter 278: Cale admitted a lot of ppl want him to open up more. It’s the same in his past life. He tried to do that as he explained what he was planning to do with the firebird to Rosalyn.
Why is this important?
Because the firebird got no sht to do with Rosalyn. Yet, Cale tried to, somehow, communicate with his friends. That’s why Rosalyn and Choi Han made eye contact and realized the small changes.
It’s there, it’s going to take time however. KRS seems to be a bit of a sociopath as well.
Hmmm his attitude would actually make sense once his past is explained :))))
Hmmm even though we can read Cale’s thoughts, I can somehow get why readers misunderstand him and at the same time, I can relate to him too. People like Cale DO EXIST. I can’t explain why he’s like this but I went through the same so yep. I hope readers will continue to read this despite that and there are actually improvements that Cale, himself, does not recognize, it’s too miniscule but you can realize it more if you reread it! 😀
A lot of people have already tried to explain or defend Cale but I can’t let this go especially he holds a certain spot in my heart lmao. It’s just that I am offended that Cale is seen as self-centered and that it’s a bad thing. I’m gonna try my best to not spoil some things while also explaining that he is, but it’s not a bad thing.
But first, Cale being smart is not automatically directed to being emotionally intelligent as the future chapters will explain, but I believe it has already been shown a lot of times and not just for the sake of ‘misunderstandings’ for laughs.
Next, Cale being self-centered is one of the most human aspects in him and it is totally realistic. But him, having the true goal of a peaceful life is something that cant be achieved just by going away alone. It also might seem self-centered but it is only due to the fact that he does not know how to deal with emotions, sympathy, or any of the sort. It’s more like, they should trust Cale as long as he knows what he’s doing because that’s what Cale does to his people. (It is the most basic form of respect where you lead a person to a well but it is not your decision if that person will drink the water or not.) I just relate to that part of Cale the most, and obviously he is not doing it all by himself since he knows how to maximize his “resources” and comrades. I don’t think I explained well but I just really wanted to defend Cale since I love him so much😆
I’m so hyped after i finished this chap then i read that guy-up-there’s opinion and I’m just suddenly felt sad.
Aaaaaanywayss, Cale that’s just what you call a ‘perfect backstab’
Thank you for the chapter!!
this is sad we can see cale’s thought process but there are still who misunderstands him :< i like his character so much since he resembles my selfish but not so selfish (if that makes sense) self #NOTOCALESLANDER
Look forward to the Imperial Prince’s downfall
I didn’t expect that there will be three video communication devices.😂😂
I MEAN THREEEE??(*Pfft)
Cale: I’m going to spy, alone.
Cale: It’s ok I won’t get found out.
Everyone: THAT’S??? NOT THE FUCKING POINT!!!!!!!
Cale: *is offended his fam is more reassured by an OP 6-year-old than by him*
Cale: *so pale he can play a deadly sick patient without needing make-up*
Cale: *wonders why his fam is so worried about him*
OMG now I feel sorry for Adin haha
Thanks for the chapter!
This comment section is more lively than usual xd
I do wish cale-nim realised how beloved he is, but honestly a lot of people have that kind of false sense of unimportance. This chapter is really sweet with toonka and harol all being very worried about cale-nim.
Rather than self-centered (despite his self-perception) hes too selfless? Like he does get healed by vitality and is protected by raon, but he does throw himself into the frontline a lot. His family and friends hope cale-nim would rely on them more, but he is still as unwilling as he was as kim rok soo xd But he’s getting better!
Cale has the best personality an MC could get. Ever since I read this, (rereading again), no other MC of any manwha/novel could get close to his standard. Even Dokja or solo leveling MC is not close. Cale is like my ultimate standard for a good MC. Try reading Chinese mangas especially reincarnate/ transmigrate male mc and compare them to Cale. Those are the real trash self centered MCs. I have not been once annoyed nor stressed by this novel.
Cale is the best. He ain’t a perv, crybaby, coward, womaniser, indecisive, or haughty.
Damn all the people in the comments have become cale fanatics(or is it everyone?)
LONG LIVE COMMANDER CALE!!!!
I don’t wanna sound like an a**hole but… it’s a character flaw. He acts as intended by the author, he doesn’t understand the value of his own life, nor does he even realize the weight of his own actions, he’s supposed to be dense in that region.
Honestly i love cale being cale. This is the first time i have seen an MC acts like this and it is jist so refreshing and amusing. Most MCs are so basic and naive but cale is so smart and he crushes his enemies and is always steps ahead of them. I think this kind of MC is better than most naive boring and “nice and kind” MC.
There are people out there that can see things when it’s about other people but when it comes to theirselves, they’re oblivious af. Like they’re so good at figuring out other people’s perception but they’re totally clueless when it comes to their perception of theirselves.
Do you see this, Cale! Even Bob gets it! EVEN TOON-BOB!
Cale be like work smater not worl harder *puts three video communication in line, activated at the same time so he does not have to explain again and again.
‘He’ll probably die after using his ancient powers a few more times. This is very sad.’
With great power, knowledge is necessary to use it well. But knowledge without wisdom, then foolishness is the result.
Imma just say that what Cale is doing is do be unhealthy for him and his surroundings (will be if u arent convinced) and I hope for him to heal and be better lol (if that is somehow miraclely possible). Ok byes *leaves*
Prince Valentino hasn’t appeared much, but I like him. Even though his Kingdome would seem like a place just for action houses or gambling, he seems to be a good person. And even better you can see he cares about his people.
Mosy stories, make their Royalty very greedy when their place thrives on Auction Houses and gambling. So, I like how this one is different.
