When I opened my eyes I was a Superstar – Chapter 166: From the Universe (4)

Set of the ‘Go low, Go high’ music video shoot.

Looking at the six of them, who were respectable young men now, standing there wearing clothes from top luxury brand Coco, they looked so cool that people couldn’t help but applaud.

A graphic t-shirt with a logo and pants that went down to their ankles to start, each member looked really stylish and extravagant with accessories like sunglasses, a necklace or a broach.

The worth of even the smallest earring skyrockets if it has the Coco logo on it. Coco’s products all cost 10x – 100x the cost of ordinary products.

They said the cost came from the designers’ agony, the hard work of the artisans who made the products, and the brand’s history, but reality was that it was hard for ordinary people to even buy one wallet.

The value of the Coco products each member currently had on easily exceeded 10 million Won*. It was worth that cost too. It was colorful yet exuded elegance.
(TL Note: around $7,222)

The Coco broach that was attached to Park Tae Hyung’s chest was shining blindingly. Ahn Hyung Seo, who had been eyeing the broach among all the accessories, looked enviously and said in an exaggerated way,

“Ahhhh, it’s blinding, it’s blinding!”

Park Tae Hyung replied as he laughed awkwardly,

“Hyung seo… Your hat is super cool too…”

“It’s dope. And it covers Hyung Seo’s face!”

Ahn Hyung Seo laughed at the ridiculousness of Jung Yoon Ki’s response to Park Tae Hyung’s comment.

“What? Ugh, you, seriously. You’re one to talk, yours is covered by sunglasses.”

“Man…”

It was true, so Jung Yoon Ki had nothing to say.

“Wow, seriously, it’s so nice. Who wants to take a selfie with me?”

When Kim Won, who was standing in front of a full-length mirror on one side of the studio, yelled, Ahn Hyung Seo excitedly went next to him. Suk Ji Hoon, who was resting on a chair, quietly got up, stood next to Kim Won and gave a V sign.

The phrase ‘clothes make the man’ seemed to be true to an extent. Perhaps thanks to the well-fitting nice clothes, the KK members’ seemed to be in top shape.

At that moment, the ‘Go low, Go high’ song started to play again through the speakers on site.

It was time for Do Wook’s individual shoot.

The members, who had been scattered, gathered towards the set. On the camera monitor, Do Wook was lip syncing his part.

Today’s set was white and clean like never before. There were no other props. They planned on doing everything through CGI.

Therefore, this shoot for the ‘Continue’ music video was considered as easy as taking candy from a baby, where the members just had to dance in front of a white-background studio and give an emotion-filled gesture during individual shoots.

Do Wook sang his part to the rhythm as he waved his hands, then at the last part, he laughed like a villain who seemed to despise the world.

It didn’t fit Do Wook’s usual image, but it seemed to fit the vibe of the song completely.

“Kill them all!”

It truly was an expression that looked like it could kill everyone, and the members got hyped when they saw Do Wook’s expression. The members’ cheering made Do Wook lose himself even more in the moment and make increasingly brazen poses.

“Ooohh, Kang Do Wook!”

“Seriously. You’re really good. Good job, bro!”

Kim Won put his fingers together and whistled.

Do Wook’s part was originally Jung Yoon Ki and Kim Won’s part, but it was passed over to him. Jung Yoon Ki had told him to give it a try so he did, and Do Wook did the rap perfectly to the point they could immediately go into recording.

Of course, it was an easy part, but it truly seemed like there was no limit to his talent when it came to music.

It seemed like the lyrics of the part that was re-added with Do Wook’s voice were delivered more accurately. There was more weight to it.

“He’s even good at rapping…”

Ahn Hyung Seo muttered, almost jealous.

“Total scam,”*
(TL Note: that’s sometimes how it’s phrased when someone else is unfairly OP)

Suk Ji Hoon, who was next to him, added. The other members also nodded their heads.

There were a lot of repeats during the shoot. Each time that happened, Do Wook did a different improvised choreography to convey excitement. All the takes were good, so it was a little burdensome for the music video Director*. When they were on their fifth take, Do Wook took off the thin jacket he was wearing and threw it towards the camera.
(TL comment: If they’re good, why did the repeat so much o.O )

Swish, the jacket flew towards the camera.

A scene with a vibe beyond their imagination came together naturally. The director smiled widely.

“OKAY! Good! Nice work, Do Wook!”

With the Director’s send-off, Do Wook’s individual shoot ended.

Next was shooting the ending scene.

The ending choreography for ‘Go low, Go high’ involved the six members standing in a line, taking a step, and doing a kick.

When the accompaniment started to play, the members counted in their heads.

“One, two, three!”

The staff counted out loud. The members jumped up in sync with the chant and kicked into the air.

[KK’s unending rise, taking control of the world’s music charts!]

To keep ‘Continue’’s popularity going, a remix version of the follow up song ‘Go Low, Go High’ was announced.

‘Go low, Go high’ was a song that Jung Yoon Ki, who was a member, had composed. This remix version that they did as a collaboration with famous American DJ Kalma showed that Do Wook, who was acting as a composer and producer, was not the only member with outstanding composing talent and that they had grown into world-class stars. Currently, ‘Continue’’s music video had exceeded 10 million views on MyTube and ‘Go low, Go high’ exceeded 300,000 views, showing surprising momentum.

-The new music video is the bomb~!!!!

-The choreography is incredibly cool too T.T I hope they do a lot of music broadcasts. One week is too short~~~!

-Kicks lolol

-TaeKwon K! Hap hap!

-For Koreans, definitely TaeKwonDo

-Kicks. But only the person wearing the sunglasses’ kicks were too low lolol

-Yoon Ki~ Let’s try harder~! TaeKwon K, fighting -ㅁ-//

-I didn’t know Kang Do Wook had a gangster side to him;

-If you watch Blue Whale, he plays a bully and he did the gangster role well there too

-It was different, which was nice. If I meet them on the street, I’d lose my mind

-He’s acting, right?? Incredible

-It might be a different story if it were a different celebrity, but let’s not touch Kang Do Wook. Be compassionate~

-I watched them on a music broadcast performing Continue and Go low, Go High one after another and I almost fainted

-Is KK’s stamina ok?

-It’s just that we as Koreans aren’t too familiar with it. I can’t believe they did a collab with DJ Kalma…it’s a really amazing thing. He’s the hottest DJ in New York right now. All the clubs are dying to book him and there’s a line of hip hop singers who want to work with him…I don’t listen to idol music, but I was really surprised that they worked with Kalma.

-What a know-it-all

-KK is truly amazing too. They’re the hottest idols in Korea right now ^^;

-Our Do Wook even rapped~ So cool!

-I am Rina from Rio. uki oppa. I love YOU!!!

-Hurrr, there’s a foreigner commenting on the Korean portal lol

-I’m a foreign exchange student living in a village in Ireland. It’s a small village so it’s rare to hear pop music, let alone KPOP, but when I went to the market today KK’s song was playing on the radio, so I was really surprised! As a Korean, I was so proud.

-I’m on vacation in Guam and it was playing on the radio…

-Patriotism! Whooo~~~!!!

-Seriously, my shoulders are shaking for no reason

-Go low, Go high has a lot of English lyrics too so I think it’s feels more familiar to foreigners

-The rap is exciting~

“We’re getting really good reactions,”

Ahn Hyung Seo, who had been on his cellphone after entrusting his hair to a coordinator, said to Suk Ji Hoon, who was sitting next to him.

“I know. PD Hyung Joo Hyuk came earlier to praise us too and was trying to get on our good side…Is this what they mean by being amazed by big change over a short time?”

“Hey, what’s up with that old-man way of speaking?”

Ahn Hyung Seo shook his head at what Suk Ji Hoon said.

On the set of SVS’s ‘Life Song’, preparations for KK’s 3rd full-length album goodbye performance was in full swing. The members were preparing for the performance in the waiting room.

It might have been expected since they had substantial popularity as well as years of experience under their belt, but KK was treated completely differently than how they had been before.

An A4 sized paper that said < K.K > in big letters was hanging on the biggest waiting room. Thinking back to when many singers were sharing one waiting room, the current space was big enough for even the 20 or so dance team members to comfortably wait there with them.

Having more space didn’t mean that they had more spare time. Rather, there were more things like clothes and hair to check since they had to prepare for two consecutive performances.

Today’s broadcast was a pre-recording, and KK prepared full versions of both ‘Continue’ and ‘Go low, Go high’.

The coordinators worked busily putting the outfits on the members.

The members who were waiting for their turns were eating the lunches and snacks the fans had sent out of support.

There was an extremely large cake with a picture of KK printed on it that had arrived, but the members, who were watching what they ate, couldn’t eat more than a finger-sized portion of the cake.

Within that kind of chaotic atmosphere, KK’s waiting room door opened.

It was already the fifth time the waiting room door had opened. The members’ gazes headed towards the door again.

“Woah….”

Kim Won exclaimed quietly as he looked at the row of people coming inside. Looking at the white mini dress and flower decoration outfits, you could tell that it was a team they had seen during their recent activities. It was ‘Cherry Girl’* who had just debuted.
(TL Note: It said ‘Cherry Girl’ not ‘Cherry GirlS)

“Hello! We’re Cherry Girl~!”

“Hello, KK sunbaes!”

The girls’ voices rang throughout the waiting room where only the male members had been present.

The junior groups were coming to KK’s waiting room to say hello one after another. The members, who were each doing their own tasks, got up hesitantly, not used to it no matter how many times it happened.

They had also given these greetings numerous times when they were rookies, so they knew how embarrassing it would be if they didn’t accept the greetings. The members tried to greet the new singers as warmly as possible.

“This is our album! We hope you’ll enjoy it, sunbae!”

“…Ok. Thank you.”

Of course Jung Yoon Ki couldn’t help his tone of voice that became stiff out of embarrassment and awkwardness. Just as other rookie groups had done, the Cherry Girl members held out signed copies of their CD and introduced themselves one by one.

“I’m Jin…”

“Ms. Really Pretty Jin Na Eun!”*
(TL Note: There’s a pun here on her name Jin and “really”, which is JINjja)

Cherry Girl member Jin Na Eun had a surprised expression and paused. Kim Won said her name before she introduced herself. On top of that, the modifier ‘really pretty’ was one that Ji Na Eun’s fans started to add and was just starting to go around on the internet.

Kim Won showed he was happy to meet her with a proud expression. Jin Na Eun shyly smiled and thanked him. The Cherry Girl members looked at Jin Na Eun when KK’s Kim Won recognized her and looked envious.

The KK members looked at Kim Won, fascinated and wondering how he knew the name of Jin Na Eun, who had just debuted.

Actually, Kim Won’s high IQ proved its worth even more when gathering information about girl groups. They knew that Kim Won was very interested in girl groups and was very knowledgeable, but they didn’t know he even knew the nicknames of a girl group that had only debuted a month ago.

As they thanked Kim Won for recognizing them, Cherry Girl was able to leave KK’s waiting room with a pep in their step.

“Won, you really shouldn’t like girl groups too much!”

“That’s right. The fans…”

After Cherry Girl left, Ahn Hyung Seo warned him. Suk Ji Hoon also put in a word. Kim Won waved his hands.

“No! No! It’s not that kind of interest. Really, I just respect them.”

“Do you not respect boy bands?”

“Wow….”

One shot quietly delivered by Do Wook made Kim Won flustered and close his mouth. Park Tae Hyung was also quietly giving Kim Won a look asking him to tell the truth. Jung Yoon Ki shook his head as he giggled.

Honestly, the reason they could even joke around like this was because even though Kim Won had a lot of interest in girl groups’ performances and information, he didn’t build friendships beyond business relationships.

It wasn’t easy for a young man to do, but KK was thoroughly managing their private lives so no harm came to the team.

Then, there was a knock on the waiting room door again.

“There isn’t that much time until the performance…”

Gu Chul Min, who checked the time, grumbled a little.

The person who opened the door and came in was M2M. It was M2M’s Choi Eun Ho.
