When I opened my eyes I was a Superstar – Chapter 129: New Goal (4)

‘La Vie En Rose’, reinterpreted with Do Wook’s voice, gave off a very sweet but lonely feeling at the same time.

Despite the fact that the sound quality was not so good since it was a MyTube live broadcast, Do Wook’s singing was delivered with emotion and heart to the people across the sea watching MyTube from Korea.

-My ears are melting right now

-A bee came into my house right now. I think it came in because it heard Do Wook’s voice and thought it was honey

-What’s with that joke lol

-Kang Do Wook, did he learn French as a second language?

-Oh, that’s true. Does he know French?

-It’s different hearing him sing in French

-What CAN’T he do

-He’s bad at being bad at something

-Being ugly…lol

-Do Wook T.T T.T T.T take me T.T T.T T.T

-He won’t take you even if you give yourself to him *nod nod*

It left too much of an impression to just call it a short song in lieu of saying a greeting in French.

Do Wook, who sang from the beginning of the first verse chorus up until the interlude, finished the song as he observed the reactions around him.

Director Yoon Sung Ah and Park Hyo Won, who had been listening as if they had been possessed, clapped.

“You’re really incredible, Do Wook.”

Director Yoon Sung Ah was in admiration of his talent.

They thought they knew how talented he was, but his talent always made them admire him anew. Acting, singing. There was nothing he couldn’t do so they admired him even more.

Of course, the talent Do Wook currently had was the result of a combination of two things.

Kang Do Wook’s great body and Kim Bo Myung’s spirit, passion, and hard work.

A sea breeze blew past Do Wook’s hair. Do Wook was feeling a little shy but gave a comfortable smile as if responding to the applause.

To sing with the proper sound in the past, he had to focus on warming up his voice, practice collecting his breath in his abdomen, and had to put in effort to bring out his voice from deep within his body instead of coming out raw from his throat.

However, as a result of his extensive efforts, he was now at a level where he could sing comfortably at any time.

“I knew you’re a singer, but I didn’t know you were this good at singing.”

“Our Do Wook even sang a ballad solo.”

Director Yoon Sung Ah and Park Hyo Won praised Do Wook again.

“It’s amazing that you even know chanson.”

“When I was thinking about coming to Cannes, I was so nervous that I couldn’t sleep. So I calmed myself down by listening to the chanson at dawn…and I ended up memorizing it a little.”

Do Wook explained on screen how he ended up memorizing and singing ‘La Vie En Rose’.

“I think it suits you so well, Do Wook. Even the title of the song.”

‘La Vie En Rose’ means life of a rose.*
(*PR note: Unfortunately, this is wrong. It means “Life Seen Through Rose-Tinted Glasses” (loosely translated), and it’s a love song.)

Do Wook blushed a little at what Director Yoon Sung Ah said.

It was somewhat a little embarrassing that his life, which had been insignificant, had become a life that could be compared to a rosy life.

The MyTube live broadcast wrapped up after answering a few more questions.

Afterwards, the movie was the center of conversation. In Korea, they were already working hard to deliver the news of the ardent response in Cannes that led to the ‘10 Minute Standing Ovation’ which made it to the front page.

Meanwhile, fans who had watched the Mytube were editing Do Wook’s live singing of ‘La Vie En Rose’.

Videos of Do Wook were posted on various communities, including the fan community.

It was not just in Korea. Fans abroad admired Do Wook’s sense of humor and were moved by the song.

Furthermore, local media, who had been a bit interested in Do Wook, heard that Do Wook had sung a chanson and proudly included the fact in the interview article of the < Blue Whale > team.

France was a country with great pride in its culture. As such, the local media were very satisfied that he sang their songs in their own language.

It was also true that, thanks to that, the evaluations of < Blue Whale > in the articles became a little more generous.

What awaited Do Wook, who returned to Korea after successfully concluding the events at the Cannes Film Festival, was a few more appearances at movie theaters.

Afterwards, it was time to return to being KK member Kang Do Wook, not actor Kang Do Wook.

He had done KK activities here and there while on his overseas tour, but except strictly the performance events, Do Wook had to free up all his time for promoting the movie which had become bigger than expected.

While he was busy with activities and taking care of different incidents, time had flown by again. It was the end of the year once more.

As soon as Do Wook entered the rehearsal hall to rehearse for the award ceremony performance, the members who were already there greeted him.

“Brother, it’s so hard to see your face!”

“I saw it on MyTube. Do Wook singing a chanson. Did you drink wine that day or something?”

Do Wook scratched his head at what Kim Won and Ahn Hyung Seo said.

“I was in a good mood that day…”

“It’s understandable you were in a good mood, you got to go to Cannes.”

Jung Yoon Ki nodded his head as if saying he totally understood.

The members felt it was a pity that they couldn’t all meet up because Do Wook was so busy, but they were incredibly proud of Do Wook who was doing major events out there.

“What about Ji Hoon and Tae Hyung?”

Do Wook wondered about the two members who had not arrived yet .

“They’re most likely late because they’re upset.”

Jung Yoon Ki’s words made Do Wook shoot a look at Ahn Hyung Seo as if asking if it was true. Jung Yoon Ki typically spoke very vaguely and half-heartedly to begin with, so sometimes even his jokes sounded sincere.

“Of course that’s not true. Ji Hoon went back out because he had to grab the rehearsal clothes from the dormitory, and Tae Hyung will be about an hour late today.”

“Why is Tae Hyung late?”

“You used to know everything about your friends. Have you changed since going to Cannes?!”

Just like Jung Yoon Ki, Ahn Hyung Seo teased Do Wook with a joke that didn’t even make sense.

Actually, Park Tae Hyung had a performance with Hyeon Ji at the awards ceremony, so he had gone to practice at the rehearsal hall where Brave Only Child was. He was about an hour late for KK’s practice because he also had to accommodate Hyeon Ji’s schedule.

Since Park Tae Young had the best choreography acquisition ability anyway, he could easily catch up after missing an hour or so of practice.

“Ahh…”

Do Wook nodded.

From the solo album activities to the film shoot as well as promoting the movie. Do Wook had been doing activities outside of KK by himself.

Of course, his sunbaes Director Yoon Sung Ah and Park Hyo Won were by Do Wook’s side when filming the movie, but it wasn’t the same as with the KK members.

Hanging out with the members and talking about the members who had not arrived yet, Do Wook quickly regained how it felt to be in KK with the members.

“The award ceremony this time will be incredibly…”

“Busy.”

“It’ll be chaotic.”

“Especially for you, Do Wook.”

The members each added to Do Wook’s comment.

First, Suk Ji Hoon was scheduled to appear at the KVS Entertainment Awards, in addition to the Music Awards of all broadcasting stations. Suk Ji Hoon was nominated for the Rookie of the Year award thanks to his active role in Camping 48 Hours.

Unless something big and unexpected happened, Suk Ji Hoon was set to win the Rookie of the Year Award at the Entertainment Awards.

Also, KK’s performance in the music industry was unrivaled. Not only was KK’s full-length album ‘Blue Sky’ a big hit, but Park Tae Hyung also showed his potential in a male-female duo, which is rare in the music industry these days, through a collaboration album with Hyeon Ji.

The performance by OKAY, which had been active as a hip hop unit, was also good enough to be part of the award ceremony.

Do Wook’s solo album too, which had two hits. To put it another way, they could have an award ceremony with just the KK members.

It meant that KK was doing that well this year, but it also meant that during the awards ceremony season, it would be busy and hectic in a way that last year couldn’t hold a candle to it.

At that moment, Suk Ji Hoon, who had gone to the dormitory and came back, and Album Production Team’s Assistant Manager Kwon Woo Chan, who was in charge of the performances, entered the rehearsal hall together.

“Hello!”

“Hello.”

The members, who were sitting on the floor warming up, stood up and greeted Assistant Manager Kwon Woo Chan.

Assistant Manager Kwon Woo Chan, who came in as he accepted the greetings, had several papers in his hand.

Assistant Manager Kwon Woo Chan distributed the papers he was holding to each of the members. It was a paper that meticulously laid out the intention and concept of the awards performance including the stage direction.

It showed that he was putting a lot of care into it even though it was an award ceremony, not a concert.

When recreating a performance for a song that already exists, most singers put on the same production or practice a rough remix rather than preparing something very new.

However, HIT Entertainment and KK members thought about it a little differently.

The awards ceremony in particular was an opportunity to demonstrate the essence of their performance to other fans and the general public and draw attention with a new look.

You could tell just by looking at the attention they received when Do Wook and Lee Jin Ri did a joint performance last time, or when KK prepared a special group dance.

“First, this is the stage composition for the KVS Awards.”

As they listened to Assistant Manager Kwon Woo Chan’s explanation, the members thoroughly inspected the composition.

The album production team had put together the best arrangement team and paid attention to the arrangement. Of course, the final confirmers of the arrangement would be Do Wook, who was the album producer, and the KK members.

< Part 1 Number 6 >

– Hyeon Ji’s Performance (feat. Park Tae Hyung)

< Part 2 Opening Do Wook Solo Performance >

– Please Don’t Go (Orchestral Arrangement Version) 2:10

– Concept Performance, Break time 00:20

– Darling (Remix Version) 1:00

< Part 2 Ending All KK Members >

– Just Say the Word (OKAY Edited Version) 1:20

– Dance Break 00:35

– Blue Sky (Original + Acapella version) 2:35

“There really are a lot of performances…”

“There’s time for all this?”

Suk Ji Hoon and Ahn Hyung Seo asked, surprised. Assistant Manager Kwon Woo Chan replied as if he expected this response.

“KVS did take good care of us. Realistically too, we’re in a position that deserves this much time.”

It was as Assistant Manager Kwon Woo Chan said.

KK was now a candidate for not the main prize but the grand prize. Furthermore, even Do Wook alone could easily win the main prize with the success he was having.

“Still, the ending,”

Jung Yoon Ki muttered. No matter where, the opening and ending position was important. As the saying goes, ‘important people go at the very end’. In particular, the singer who does the ending is the most important of all the participating singers, and it’s a position of honor that is given to the most popular singer.

“KVS has ‘Camping 48 Hours’, and they’re not that close with other agencies, so that’s why it was decided this way,”

Assistant Manager Kwon Woo Chan explained further.

“Then what about other broadcast stations…”

Assistant Manager Kwon Woo Chan frowned a little when Do Wook asked.

“That’s just it. That’s the problem currently.”

***

There are many singers who participate in music programs, so each team has a lot of discussion about the time allocation or the ending position. It wasn’t for naught that music program PDs have a lot of power in the entertainment world.

With the expanded version of the music program and the award at stake, it was natural for a fight to break out over one minute, one second of the awards performance.

Vicarious conflicts came up. The topic that broadcasting stations were agonizing over the most was the distribution of time and order among the candidates.

It was difficult to distribute them all fairly. Adjustments were needed, and the atmosphere of the ceremony could change depending on how the adjustments were made.

It was Sa Bang Shin Hwa and KK who were the problem at the award show this time.

Manager Oh Baek Ho was frowning upon receiving the cue sheet for TBN’s award show, one of the biggest Music Awards.

“This won’t do.”

Fan Marketing Team Leader Lee Dae Hyung, who was sitting in front of Manager Oh Baek Ho, was thinking the same thing.

Next chapter: With M2M going through a hard time after the issues Seo Kang Jun created, KK’s main rival is neutralized. However, HIT Entertainment (and Do Wook) still have a long way to go before they triumph over Ara Entertainment.
